Our Statutory Dimension: Members from “North America and the Caribbean”
For the election of Regional Councilors to the IUCN Council, the Insular Caribbean is grouped with North America into a single constituency.
Our Program Focus: Strategic Partnership with ORMACC
For program implementation, project execution, and technical cooperation, the Caribbean Islands Office works closely with the Regional Office for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean (ORMACC), while also maintaining open channels of communication with other IUCN regional structures.
This unique position manifests itself in two key dimensions:
We are members of the North America region for governance and representation, while we work side by side with Mesoamerica and the continental Caribbean on implementation. This dual membership enriches our perspective and maximizes the impact of our conservation work.

CRC's Global Collaboration Networks
The CRC actively participates in the Global Group, a forum that brings together national and regional committees from around the world to coordinate strategies, share experiences, and strengthen member participation in IUCN governance. Established by the IUCN Council in 2017, the Global Group works to foster cooperation, support the development of new committees, and optimize communication between members and the IUCN Secretariat.
IUCN National, Regional, and Interregional Committees
The CRC participates in ABC-ñ, a collaborative initiative between the Regional Committees of the Caribbean, Mesoamerica, and South America, and the IUCN Spanish Committee. Created to strengthen dialogue and the use of Spanish within the organization, its main objectives are:
To bring the IUCN closer to its Spanish-speaking members by making it easier for them to understand and participate.
To promote synergies and joint projects among the Spanish-speaking countries in the region.
To develop common positions and strengthen the voice of Latin America and the Caribbean within the IUCN.
ABC-ñ: A Space for Collaboration Among Spanish Speakers
The CRC is part of IUCN’s global network of National, Regional, and Interregional Committees, which facilitates cooperation among members and their participation in the Program and in the Union’s governance.

IUCN Commissions are broad, active networks of scientists and experts that provide IUCN and its Members with sound knowledge and strategic advice to advance conservation and sustainable development.
